A traditional, secular canon melody arranged for 2-part choir, any voicing, with piano. The rhythmically-interesting arrangement will develop excellent diction and harmony in young singers.

The magical poem is by E Pauline Johnson and evokes the enchantment of nature like so much of her writing. This dreamlike work captures the undulating rhythm of the “night wind whispering” through the forest to a friend “beyond the sea.”

In February 2022, a brave Ukrainian woman gave Russian soldiers sunflower seeds to put in their pockets so “when they die, sunflowers will grow.” This short song is a reflection on this gesture and the extremely sad situation has transpired with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This lovely little dance like arrangement of the traditional nursery rhyme will be a great addition to any developing choir repertoire. Instruments can be added to liven the piece.
