‘Christmas Song’ begins with a sombre mood and moves into a more uplifting sense of hope and renewal because “a little child is born.” A poem written by Canadian poet, Carmen Bliss uses beautiful imagery such as “singing bells”, “sunbeams on snow” and “the awakening heart” to celebrate the wonderful Christmas story.

This prize winning piece of the International AVE VERUM Compositions Competition 2021. The tone clusters combine with the rich part writing to create a spectacular piece for upper choir.

This melody is mostly known as “The Carrion Crow” and was first discovered about 300 years ago. The change from carrion to kangaroo is a comical example of how traditional songs are handed down from singer to singer.
