In February 2022, a brave Ukrainian woman gave Russian soldiers sunflower seeds to put in their pockets so “when they die, sunflowers will grow.” This short song is a reflection on this gesture and the extremely sad situation has transpired with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

This original Celtic melody, based on 17th century text, is hauntingly beautiful and tells the story of a young women’s lament about losing her heart.

The 15-minute mini-musical was created to provide students in Gr. 4 – 6 with cross-curricular and integrated learning opportunities specifically in music, drama, movement, visual arts, science and language arts.

Decked with passages of counterpoint and homophony, this arrangement features the traditional New Zealand ballad with a catchy melody and driving rhythm. Commissioned by St. Patrick’s High School in 2021.
