Choral Music News: October 2023

It’s the 2023 fall choir season! To update you, I’ve prepared a brief list, complete with a link to my catalog of available compositions. You can easily access and download my choral listings right here. For comprehensive details on all of our scores, please visit my website.

As Artist in Residence for St Patrick’s Regional High School and Artistic Director for Vancouver Cansing, I wrote the following pieces. Here are a few that may be of interest.  

Ave Verum Corpus, SSAA a cappella. The award-winning piece was premiered by Katja Kalmar (Conductor) and Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen Youth Choir, in Baden Austria. It is now published by PH Publishers.

Come, My Way, SATB with piano accompaniment was premiered last June 2022 by St Patrick’s Regional High School Chamber Choir and will be published by T.U.X. People’s Music.

Espero Ter A Dita, SATB, a cappella was premiered in June at the Chan Centre and performed on tour in Portugal, July 2023 by St Patrick’s Spirit Alive Choir.

Hope, SATB with piano and optional C instrument was premiered by Vancouver Cansing Choir for the Vancouver Food Bank benefit concert December, 2022.

Pomme de Reinette, SATB a cappella arrangement is my newest piece and it originates from my Kodály Method school teaching. It’s super fun, energetic and has lots of learning!

Soon May the Wellerman Come, TTBB a cappella was recorded by the St Patrick’s Regional High School and was performed in June by young singers in the Chor Leoni Emerging Choral Artist program.

The Water is Wide, SSAA, a cappella was arranged for St. Patrick’s High School Treble Concert Choir.

Vancouver Chamber Choir MOSAIC premiere September 22nd: A new work called, “Today, Under Darkened Skies I Watched the Water Breathe”. The text was written in November 2022 by Dr. Jeanette Gallant and the poetry features the extraordinary power of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. The piece will be published in SATB, SSAA and TTBB.

Highlights through Cypress Music Publishing:

I Had No Time to Hate, SATB – This composition was premiered by the Vancouver Chamber Choir and performed by other choirs including the Alberta Youth Choir (spring 2023) and Ontario Youth Choir (summer 2023). It will be performed by the Cantabile Chamber Singers this November 11^th, in Toronto. It is now published by Cypress.

Lullay, My Liking, SATB/SSAA/TTBB – This composition is on the Elora Singers’ Juno nominated Album. It is now published by Cypress.

O Little Rose, O Dark Rose, SATB/TTBB – This piece was premiered by Chor Leoni Men’s Choir and is on the Gesualdo Six FADING album and continues to be performed. It is published through Cypress.
